Folk artisan from Botoșani (since 2005), specializing in knotwork and items woven from twine and cotton: *mărțișoare*, snowdrops made of knotted thread, and figurines of Baba Dochia and Dragobete.
Aurora Sauciuc has been a folk artisan since 2005, though she fondly recalls beginning her needlework activities while still a schoolgirl.
Her mother—skilled in weaving and sewing—was her first role model and her initial teacher in the craft. She started with bookmarks, embroidery,
and simpler items suited to a ten-year-old's abilities. Over time, she began creating *mărțișoare* (traditional spring trinkets) using feathers, seeds, and beads.
She crafts the figure of Baba Dochia from walnuts: she splits the nut in two, removes the kernel, adds small eyes (or draws them on with a marker),
and attaches a headscarf; while she once fashioned the nose from a small twig or sliver of wood, she now uses a pistachio shell.
The depiction of Dragobete—Baba Dochia’s son—follows the same technique, though as a male figure, he wears a traditional fur hat (*cușmă*).
She also creates *mărțișoare* using a knotted tapestry technique. Crafting a snowdrop this way requires neither needles nor hooks; instead,
the artisan notes that she employs the most valuable tool of all: human fingers. The snowdrop is formed entirely from knots—from knotted thread.
